►VWR
Power Upgrades
Such is the strength of current
Volkswagen engines that there is great scope to increase
performance of the turbocharged engines in the range without
compromising reliability or, in many cases, economy.
So confident are we, that all Stage 1 Power Upgrades fitted to
vehicles still under manufacturer's warranty will be covered
under the VWR warranty - giving you complete peace of mind.
Note, this only applies to UK customers.
The philosophy behind all of the VWR Power Upgrades is to
develop the mid-range torque rather than simply chasing the
headline power figures that some aftermarket tuners aim for.
This is a lesson taught to us by racing, where a strong power
curve matters much more than simply a peaky output at high revs.
This translates exceptionally well to the road, where our power
upgrades deliver their torque strongly from low revs. This
makes for very usable power on the road, and in our experience
of some supposedly higher output engines, makes a much quicker
vehicle in 'real life'.
See our
FAQ Section for more information on these Power Upgrades..

Stage 1 is, logically,
our starting point for VWR Power Upgrades.
These power increases are ideal for all fast road Golf
Mk5s - a real, genuine increase in power and mid-range
torque, yet carefully developed and proven to protect
your car's reliability and economy at all times.
For all UK vehicles still covered by Volkswagen
Manufacturer Warranty, the Stage 1 Power Upgrades will
be covered by the VWR warranty to give you complete
peace of mind.
We recommend strongly that for all Stage 1 power increases, an
upgraded VWR Rear Exhaust and VWR Performance Air Filter
is fitted at the same time.
Why? Well, these improve the efficiency of the engine's
breathing quite significantly, and hence make the most
of our recalibrations of the engine mapping in the ECU.
So the engine works more efficiently, the fuel
consumption and emissions are barely affected (sometimes
even improved), reliability of components is protected,
and you get the most enjoyable and well-engineered
driving experience.
Not to mention the improved looks and sound that the
full Stage 1 package of exhaust, filter and remap will give you.
For all of our GTI race cars, this Stage 1 upgrade is
what we use on track - with that plus Warranty cover, what better reassurance
could you ask for?

Stage 2 is the next step
for VWR Power Upgrades.
Stage 2 is only applicable for the
GTI and R models.
Stage 2 tends to start to work the engine significantly
harder than Stage 1 does. So it is essential that
we must fit the full VWR Exhaust system - which
crucially has the high-flow catalyst. This,
together with the VWR Performance Airfilter, is the key
to getting higher power outputs from the 2.0 TSI
engine.
At this level, you may start to notice some reduction in
fuel economy. But we are still working well within
the limits of the engine, drivetrain and cooling system.
At Stage 2 level of power output, you should be
considering upgrading other aspects of your car, such as
brakes, suspension and engine mounts - we'd be happy to
advise.

Stage 3 is the ultimate
for VWR Power Upgrades.
Stage 3 is only applicable for the R model.
As with Stage 2,
Stage 3 is now working the engine significantly
harder than Stage 1 does. So it is essential that
we must fit the full VWR Exhaust system - which
crucially has the high-flow catalyst. Stage 3 also
requires an uprated fuel pump to deliver the power. These,
together with the VWR Performance Airfilter, are the key
to getting the ultimate power outputs from the 2.0 TSI
'R' engine.
At this level, you will certainly notice some reduction in
fuel economy. But we are still working just within
the limits of the engine, drivetrain and cooling system.
At this level of power output, you
should seriously consider upgrading other aspects of
your car, such as brakes, suspension and engine mounts
- we'd be happy to advise.
