The choice of wheels and tyres is one of the biggest impacts on the way any car looks and drives. Yet there are seemingly endless permutations of wheel size, offset and fitment, meaning that if you make the wrong choice you will soon find that the improvements that you expected turn into a huge disappointment.
This is why Volkswagen Racing have come up with a choice of just two wheel types and sizes for fitment to all Golf mk5 platform cars (so A3, Leon, Jetta, Eos, TT, Caddy, Octavia and so on). We have worked hard during our development of the racing cars to come up with a wheel geometry that perfectly suits these cars. This means that the car doesn’t pull on cambered roads or under braking, it means that it doesn’t foul the wheelarches when you have a full load or are cornering, and it also gives the reassurance that the wheels will look right on the car.
The Volkswagen Racing wheels are manufactured in Germany and come with the full German TUV approval for that all-important reassurance of quality.
Volkswagen Racing have a partnership with Hankook tyres, who supply all of the race tyres for the Volkswagen Racing Championship, and also supply tyres as original equipment on many Volkswagen Group vehicles. The Volkswagen Racing wheel and tyre packages use Hankook high performance road tyres. The 18” wheels can be specified with the Hankook RS2 track-biased tyre for drivers who value grip above long tyre life. Equally, wheels can be supplied with no tyres for those who wish to make their own tyre choice.
► Volkswagen Racing 18” Wheel

The 18” wheel is the most popular item in the
Volkswagen Racing Upgrade range. It has an 8” wide
rim size meaning that there is a significant difference
to the grip on the road when cornering or braking.
The choice of 18” wheels opens up a range of high
performance tyre technology when compared with what is
available on smaller wheel sizes. The 18” wheel
also allows specific choices of track-oriented tyres for
ultra-high performance applications.
The 18” wheel is finished in brilliant silver and looks fantastic on the car. The open design of the spokes has been designed to give an optimum balance between strength and cooling for the brakes. Note that the Volkswagen Racing Brake Upgrade fits comfortably under this wheel.
► Volkswagen Racing 19” Wheel

The 19” wheel has a stunning design combined with the strength and lightness that Volkswagen Racing demands. The spoked design allows a high degree of cooling for brakes. With a rim width of 8.5” it is a wider wheel than the 18” wheel, allowing a wider tyre footprint.
The 19” wheel is finished in brilliant silver for its centre and a highly polished outer rim. Tyre choice for 19” wheels is more limiting than for 18” wheels (which is why the racing cars use the 18” wheel), meaning that for anyone involved in serious track work should choose the 18” option.
But the visual appeal of the 19” wheel makes it a clear choice for those who want their car to stand out from the crowd.
